Sidney Lee Courtney was a student of John G. Wilkins at the Chicago Institute of Art. He also studied at the Detroit Art Academy, the University of Michigan and the George Rich studio in Detroit. A resident of Birmingham, Michigan, he served as Vice President of Manufacturers National Bank - Detroit. In addition, Courtney was a prominent member of the Wind River Valley Artist's Guild in Dubois, Wyoming, where he and his wife Janet spent many summers.
